German Crewneck Sweater

Reproduction of the standard issue sweater worn by German troops of all branches of the military during WWII. As with all such clothing, numerous variations exist: Necks were made in both V- and crew styles, some sweaters had colored bands at the collar, some had bands on the cuffs, in various thicknesses and weaves. Most were some shade of medium or dark gray, but occasionally one sees a sweater that appears almost fieldgray. Some troops wore sweaters acquired from other militaries (such as Italy) as well as an endless selection of civilian models.

As for the Wehrmacht issue sweaters, the crewneck appears to have been somewhat less common than the v-neck types, but by no means rare and elusive.

As for how they were worn- just like any sweater. In period photos most are worn over some version of service or undershirt, while others appear to have been worn alone as no shirt is visible underneath. These would have been worn under the Feldbluse.

ATF reproductions: These are entirely new copies we contracted in 2023. We copied an original, down to a few quirks. These are a medium gray wool blend, with a green band on the collar, and none on the cuffs. used on the seams, and the size label uses the same font and red number as the sample. Yes, the turned out seam on the cuffs if correct as per the original.

Sizing: These are roomy. The WWII sweater we copied was a size 2 and we scaled the 1 and 3 from it.

Care: Hand wash cold, dry flat or dry clean only.

Fiber: These are 50/50 wool/ poly. The original was 60/40 wool/ rayon, a blend which we could not convince them to make. They are only slightly scratchy.
